Liverpool - London 2016 Bike Trek
Wednesday 8 - Sunday 12 June 2016

Steve Walls and his pals, are at it again. Yes the pains from last year have subsided and sores healed nicely, so they are planning to get back on their bikes and raise yet more money for Claterbridge Cancer Charity and The Linda McCartney Cancer Centre.

Their activities over the last two years have been well documented on this web site and the summary of funds raised thus far can be seen on this link

The ride this year sees them setting off from Royal Liverpool Hospital and Ending in Great Queen Street.

Steve assures me that this is the last one! So why not use the sponsor form here to start your donations coming in.

The itinerary is listed below for those who might wish to wave them along their way.

Committee Meeting 22nd February 2016 with Update on Progress

RIDERS - I can now confirm that there will be six riders: Andy Roberts; Chris Bruffell; Stu Hyde; Geoff Cuthill, David Fisher & myself. Andy Roberts will be cycling the first two days only as he has another commitment over the weekend.

RIDING TEAMS - The riders will be divided in the into two teams with the members supporting each other during the trip & will complete the event as a team to ensure no-one cycles alone.

The teams are: The Hares - Andy Roberts; Chris Bruffell & David Fisher & The Tortoises - Geoff Cuthill, Stu Hyde & Steve Walls - & as the old tale goes - the tortoises will in the end show the way - now there's a challenge!

SUPPORT CREW - The support crew for the whole event will be: John Bruffell & Bob Fisher. John Cherry will join the support crew on Friday & will finish the trip.

SUPPORT VEHICLES - John Cherry has confirmed the use of a van as per the last two years & Andy Roberts has now confirmed that his Landrover Discovery can be used for the full trip. Andy will bring the vehicle to the start point & then hand it over to the support crew. Andy's vehicle will need to be returned after the event & details will be finalized at a future meeting.

ACCOMMODATION - Now that the numbers involved are confirmed John Bruffell & John Cherry will arrange the required B&B.

ROUTE MAPS - Courtesy of Birmingham City Council & Transport for London I have obtained route maps through Birmingham & London to the finish.   Each team of riders & both support vehicles will have copies of the route maps.

FUND RAISING - you all have sponsorship sheets & if you require additional sheets I have them available.  Details of the ride & how to donate have been circulated to every Lodge, Chapter & side degree meeting at Hope Street. Additionally, the Group Charity Steward for the St Helens & Prescot Group (who is the WM of James T Callow Lodge - our daughter Lodge) will be seeking the Group Chairmans permission to circulated details of the event throughout the Group. Details have also been passed to the South Eastern Group.

Howard Youdan is fully prepared to receive donations & sponsorship forms. Don't forget it is important that the details on the forms are completed in full in order that the gift aid element can be claimed.

R CHARITY - I have met with Angela McShane & Aimee Clare who are the ladies from the charity who will be looking after the event. They wish to place on record now their thanks for what we are doing & have offered the support of the Charity with additional publicity through their website & newsletters.

The charity also uses 'just giving' to publicise the event & to raise further donations 'online' & have set up a page specifically for the event entitles 'Street2Street - Liverpool2London' which can be accessed by the following link: justgiving.com/stevewalls

Text donations can also be made through this page by entering the code: BSLW69 followed by the amount donated & sent to 70070
The R Charity will also be providing T shirts & vests for all those taking part.

START TIME - Day 1 is the longest day & it is important that we start on time.  There will be a need to take some publicity photos outside the Royal when we start & then outside Liverpool Masonic Hall prior to actually getting under way properly. Therefore we must start at 8.00am at the Royal.

PUBLICITY - we have the benefit of having Geoff Cuthill the LPL Publicity Officer with us who will take photos & compile the article as we travel.  He will also be able to email; tweet; facebook etc progress to the R Charity who will update their website & hopefully attract further financial support as we complete the ride.

VIRGIN TRAINS - All in hand via R Charity.

NEXT MEETING - It is proposed to hold another meeting at the end of April but if necessary we can arrange another before, although most of us will see each other during the intervening period.

TRAINING RIDES - It is hoped as in the past to complete several training rides prior to the event & although not all riders will be available for all it is hoped that on at least one occasion all riders will take part in a training ride. Will the riders please let me know when they are available?

Bullet Points - The Linda McCartney Centre is the sole beneficiary this year & if we can raise a minimum of £3000.00p this year that will make a total of £10,000 towards the equipping & furnishing of one of the individual state of the art in-patient treatment rooms at the new Royal Hospital.

Additionally, the support given by Brethren will be recognized by the Charity who will be erecting a plaque alongside the door of the room acknowledging the donations.

Well - that's about it for now. Sorry that it's so long but I am sure you all want to know how things are progressing.
